Checklist

  1. were the estimation challenging enough for the kids so that they were not getting bored?
  2. was there enough pebbles for the kids to play with?

how to play

Divide the children into groups of 2. Begin by telling a short story, such as helping treasure hunters sort magical stones or counting rare gems for a market stall, to make the activity engaging. Give each group a set of colourful pebbles and explain that they will play games involving counting, estimation, sound recognition, and identifying odd and even numbers. Demonstrate a few ways to play, such as guessing how many pebbles are in a handful, sorting them into even and odd piles, or shaking a small container with pebbles inside to guess the number by sound. If children have difficulty, give hints such as: What patterns do you see? How can you group the pebbles to make counting easier? Which group has an odd number? Make sure each child has enough turns to try the different activities and enjoy the game.

Challanges

  1. Conduct estimations to let the kids guess the number of pebbles present in your hand without looking into it. Generally, the kids have to guess it by listening to the sound it makes.
  2. Use sequence and series with pebbles to let kids guess what comes after a certain number of pebbles (odd, even, prime, multiples number). For example, after 2, 4, 6 pebbles, what number of pebbles will come next?

Questions to be asked

  1. Can you guess how many pebbles do I have in my hand by listening to the sound it makes?
