how to play

. Begin with a story, such as helping tiny astronauts or magical creatures safely land from high places, to spark imagination. Give each kid lightweight materials such as kite paper, newspaper or plastic, pebble, and strings to create their parachutes. Challenge them to design parachutes that can carry small objects and gently float to the ground. Encourage experimentation with size, shape, and string length to see how it affects the descent. If they struggle, give hints like: How does making the parachute bigger or smaller change how it falls? What happens if you adjust the string lengths? Let each child drop and test their parachutes multiple times, observing how design affects flight, and enjoy playful learning about air resistance, balance, and motion.

Challanges

  1. Attach different weights to the parachute and see how much weight it can carry before it falls too quickly.
  2. Build different shapes and sizes of the parachute to see which one falls the last.
  3. Drop the parachute from different heights and see the difference.

Questions to be asked

  1. Does the shape of the parachute (circle, square) affect the way it falls?
  2. What happens if you add more weight to the object hanging from your parachute?
  3. What happens if you attach two parachutes to one weight? Will it fall slower or faster? Why?
  4. What happens if you make holes in the parachute? Can you still make it work?
