Paper Tower
Children use only paper to build the tallest tower they can. This activity encourages creativity, planning, and understanding of balance and structure.
Materials :
- Paper
- Colorful Papers
- Glue Sticks (if the activity is being done outside)
- Pebbles
- Measuring Tape
Challenges:
- Make a structure without using tapes or staplers that can hold a certain weight.
- Provide an equal number of papers to a few kids and ask them to make the tower taller than the others.
- Make a tower that can handle the weight of a packet of pebbles.
- You can use estimation with measuring tapes for the height of the tower.
Questions to be asked:
- Other than folding the paper, what can be done to create a tower or a stable structure?
- Why is the tower not stable when using only one paper as the base?
- What happens when you add less paper structure at the bottom and more on the top and vice versa?
- What happens if the load you are adding to the structure is not center-aligned?
- Can rolling more papers in a bunch make the structure stronger?
