Balloon Cart
Children build a cart using balloons, straws, and bottle caps. As air escapes from the balloon, the cart rolls forward—introducing the concept of motion and force through fun.
Materials :
- Card Board
- Masking Tape
- Bottle Cap
- Balloon
- Straw
- Sausage Stick
- Scissor
- Paper Cup
- Pebbles
Challenges:
- Ask them to make a car with an odd number of wheels, like 3 or 5.
- Attach cups with a load and let it travel a certain distance.
- Get more than one balloon attached and try with each balloon going in a different direction.
- Let the kids estimate how far the cart will travel, then use a measuring tape to check.
Questions to be asked:
- Does your balloon cart go slower when you put more load on it?
- And do real cars slow down when they have more stuff in them? Why or why not?
- Does putting two or more balloons on your cart change anything?
- Do you think vehicles with an odd number of wheels would work well? Can you compare between yours and a real one?
